British Comedian, Russell Brand ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall"), is developing a remake of "Arthur," the lovely 1981 classic starring Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli, and John Gielgud who won Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as the valet.
Brand is currently meeting with scriptwriters for a possible screenplay.
All I'm saying is Brand better not mess this up! I love "Arthur" and the remake will be examined with fine-toothed precision.

Fox Searchlight's "Slumdog Millionaire" received the Best Film honor from the National Board of Review!
David Fincher won Best Director for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," one of my favorite films this year.
Clint Eastwood received Best Actor for "Gran Torino," and the fabulous Anne Hathaway, Best Actress for "Rachel Getting Married."
Meanwhile, Josh Brolin received Best Supporting Actor for "Milk," and Penelope Cruz won Best Supporting Actor for "Vicki Cristina Barcelona."
"Doubt" won Best Ensemble, while "Mongol" won Best Foreign Film. I love "Mongol" but wasn't this film released last year? It was nominated for an Academy for Best Foreign Film last awards season.

Congratulations to all the winners!

I first heard about Harvey Milk from the powerful Academy Award-winning documentary “The Times of Harvey Milk” by director Rob Epstein. That was 1984 and I was a very young film buff. 23 years later, director Gus Van Sant brings Milk’s story back to the big screen. I’m still a film buff; just a little older.
Milk, as you may have known, was the first openly gay man to be voted into major public office in America. But his victory was not just a celebratory cause for gay rights. Before his untimely death in 1978, Milk also became a fighter for human rights.
Academy Award winner Sean Penn (“Mystic River”) gave one of his most heartfelt performances as the slain politician. The actor, known for his mercurial temper, showed his rarely seen tender side. He will be the one to beat this Oscar season. Read More...

Miss Kristen Stewart is having a mighty good year! Fresh from the super success of "Twilight," she will be portraying rocker Joan Jett in "The Runaways," a biopic of the 1970s all-girl band!
Set to direct is Floria Sigismondi who also wrote the screenplay, and Miss Jett herself will be an executive producer.
Miss Jett, of course, is famous for the song "I Love Rock and Roll." But before she made that mega-hit, she was a member of The Runaways back in the 70s.
The group is best known for their leather and lace outfits, and for their hit, "Cherry Bomb."
This should be interesting! One of the most influential all-girl bands deserve a film, and the addition of Stewart makes it sweeter!

I hate to say "I Told You So" but I've been hyping about the film "Frozen River" starring the wonderful Melissa Leo!
And now, the Sundance darling was the big winner at the Gotham Awards!
"Frozen River" won the Best Feature award and Miss Leo won Breakthrough Actor.
"Synecdoche, New York" won for Ensemmble Performance while "Ballast" director Lance Hammer won the Breakthrough Director Award.
Zeitgeist Films' "Trouble the Water" won for documentary.
"Sita Sings the Blues" grabbed the "Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You" honor and a $15,000 cash prize. I guess Sita will not be singing the blues anytime soon.
Penelope Cruz, Gus Van Sant, Melvin Van Peebles, and Sheila Nevins received special tributes.
Congratulations on all the winners!
