SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is getting attention with opponents of the controversial federal anti-piracy legislation picking up steam, according to MSNBC, while its supporters are backing off.
The Obama administration has expressed concerns about SOPA and there's an Internet blackout being planned for tomorrow, Wednesday. So far, voting for both SOPA and it's sister, PIPA (The Protect IP Act), has been delayed, at least for now.
But the real story is how piracy is affecting those who work for the industry. Most recently, Kathy Wolfe, Founder and CEO of Wolfe Video and Wolfe Releasing, has written an editorial on HuffingtonPost.com saying how piracy affects independent filmmakers. "Not only has piracy negatively affected our bottom line, but more significantly, it has undermined the careers of many talented aspiring filmmaker," according to Wolfe.
